The college offers robust programs in nursing pre-licensure education, an accelerated second degree entry program, ten master’s specialties, and PhD and DNP programs, as well as moving toward offering interprofessional degrees.

The Ohio State University College of Nursing is seeking candidates for the following positions:

Distinguished Professor of Oncology Nursing Research & Director of Nursing Research & Transformative Evidence-Based Practice

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) and The Ohio State University College of Nursing (CON) invite applications for the leadership role of Distinguished Professor of Oncology Nursing Research & Director of Nursing Research & Transformative Evidence-Based Practice. We are seeking a highly accomplished NIH-funded researcher who has made substantial contributions to oncology research and nursing.

The Distinguished Professor of Oncology Nursing Research & Director of Nursing Research & Transformative Evidence-Based Practice will promote and enhance both nursing and transdisciplinary research activities at The OSUCCC - James and Ohio State College of Nursing. This individual will lead a sustainable extramurally funded research program and develop and foster research opportunities for faculty, clinicians and students, consistent with the strategic plan of The OSUCCC - James and CON. The primary responsibility of the individual holding the position is to develop extramural and internal relationships, conduct funded research as a principal investigator and as part of a transdisciplinary team, and to mentor faculty and nursing staff to conduct research as well as mentor pre- and post-doctoral fellows. A secondary appointment with The Ohio State University College of Medicine is possible.

The Distinguished Professor of Oncology Nursing Research & Director of Nursing Research & Transformative Evidence-Based Practice is a member of the OSUCCC - James senior leadership team and as such contributes to the development and execution of the organization’s mission, vision and values and strategic plan. This senior nursing leader will be responsible for providing vision, strategic direction and leadership for nursing research to The OSUCCC - James’ community of nurses. He/She will also be on the leadership team of the College of Nursing and be responsible to the Dean to lead a cancer nursing research program.

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute strives to create a cancer-free world by integrating scientific research with excellence in education and patient-centered care, a strategy that leads to better methods of prevention, detection and treatment. Ohio State is one of only 44 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and one of only four centers funded by the NCI to conduct both phase I and phase II clinical trials on novel anticancer drugs. As the cancer program’s 306-bed adult patient-care component, The James is one of the top cancer hospitals in the nation as ranked by U.S. News & World Report and has achieved Magnet designation, the highest honor an organization can receive for quality patient care and professional nursing practice. At 21 floors with more than 1.1 million square feet, The James is a transformational facility that fosters collaboration and integration of cancer research and clinical cancer care.. As an NCI designated Cancer program, the OSUCCC-James encompasses over 350, 000 outpatient and clinic patient visits, more than 12, 500 hospital admissions and over 9, 000 surgeries per year. The Distinguished Professor of Oncology Nursing Research & Director of Nursing Research & Transformative Evidence-Based Practice will oversee all nursing research professional practice roles in the James and will collaborate with the College of Nursing’s 114 faculty members and the student population.

Additionally, the individual will be expected to:

1. Collaborate with faculty and partners in diverse practice settings to stimulate and cultivate the growth of nursing research capacity within The James and CON.

2. Serve as a mentor and/or consultant to faculty, nursing staff and students in the development of fundable research proposals.

3. Work in close collaboration with members of the College of Nursing, The Ohio State University Medical Center, and The James Comprehensive Cancer Center as appropriate to plan sustained growth of transdisciplinary research efforts.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in nursing. The candidate must have a history of sustained NIH funded research and curriculum vitae consistent with appointment at senior rank in the college of nursing. Other preferred qualifications include a commitment to diversity, interprofessional education and collaboration with other health disciplines, and the ability to mentor faculty and students at all levels.
